Today we launched our own record label with our friends in [ Nonagon ]. It's called Controlled Burn Records.
The idea behind the label is simple: all work done by the label is performed by members of the participating bands. Bands will front the costs for releasing their recordings and fully get back any money that comes in from those releases. We'll share as much as we can about how we're doing what we're doing.
With the death of Hydra Head, we (the Austerity Program) had to make choices about what we were going to do next. Although it will mean less time to do other band things like tour and write music, the hope is that the label will give us maximum freedom on the long horizon. We've been working with the Nonagon guys a lot since the beginning of the year to pull this together and we're really happy that it's ready to go live.
The Hydra Head crew have been fully supportive of our doing this; there's zero bad blood between us and them and folks can buy back catalog from either of us. In the meantime, we'll go back to working on the next record.
As for the label, Nonagon had a single release earlier in the summer and will be putting out a 6 song EP later this year. It was recorded at my (Justin) house and I really like it.
